Daddy had to take a trip to Germany last week for work. He had to leave on Saturday night and didn't get back until Friday afternoon. Mom and I were looking forward to some mommy-daughter time during the week, but we had a little excitement on Sunday night that kind of changed our plans for the rest of the week! Mom and I were reading books in my room on Sunday night (last week) and we heard a loud noise. I asked mom what the noise was and she said she didn't know. I told her it sounded like a garbage truck or a recycling truck and she agreed. It was strange for almost 8pm on a Sunday, but neither of us thought much of it. We finished reading, mom tucked me in and said good night. She went downstairs and flipped the fireplace on (yay for a gas fireplace) and sat down to watch some TV. I was already asleep by the time she sat down (or at least I was quiet already). Then she heard another BANG and the glass break sensor for the living room sounded. Mom's heart was pounding and she grabbed her phone, turned the alarm on and ran upstairs. A few seconds later, she heard another BANG and the alarm went off. She called 911 and ran into my room (I was crying because the alarm scared me). At first, she thought that someone was just throwing rocks at the house or something, but when the alarm went off, she thought someone was trying to break in, so that's what she told the 911 operator. The 911 operator was fabulous and calmed us both down and the police came to check things out. They even sent a car that had dogs to sniff around. Thankfully they didn't find anything - they think it must have been a bunch of kids vandalizing and throwing things at houses. There's a tiny hole in the siding next to our front door, but that's about it.
Needless to say, mom was pretty scared and I was tired and shaken up (mom had to take me downstairs with her to talk to the police and it was far past my bedtime at that point). Mom called Ken and Marie to see if we could hang out there for the night and thankfully they had room for us. We owe them BIG TIME!!! I was thrilled to have a sleepover with Arabelle (even though she was already in bed by the time we got there). Belle was so nice and left some of her "buddies" (what I call my stuffed animals) in the guest bed for me to sleep with. I played for a little when we got there, had a cup of water, then told mom I wanted to go to bed. I fell right asleep, Marie gave mommy a glass of wine (thank you Marie!) and then mommy came to bed with me a while later. We both slept really, really well and got up and played with Belle and Cole for a little while on Monday before we came home. Mom looked around when we got home and everything was fine. She worked for a while and I played (my school was closed because it was MLK Day).
We met Ruthie for lunch on Monday - I was a little crabby at lunch, but I think it was just because my schedule was a little "off." We went back home and mom finished working. We had an early night (as we did the rest of the week) and we hung out in mom's room and watched movies - I think mom let me watch more movies last week than I have ever watched! We watched Curious George 2 and Tangled (thank you Netflix streaming) and even a few episodes of Dora. Mom even let me sleep in her bed - she said I could keep daddy's spot warm for him, so I grabbed my pillow and at least a dozen of my buddies and made myself at home. I slept well and mom got to sleep pretty early every night. Needless to say, mom was pretty glad to get back to work on Tuesday. She even got to go to the gym at lunchtime and really enjoyed her run!
Daddy got back on Friday - no problems with flights and we were SO glad to see him. He brought me the coolest puzzles from Germany - two wooden puzzles that can also stand up on display - a horse and an elephant. They're kind of hard for me to put together, but if mom and dad talk me through it, I can do it. We're going to put them up in my room :) He brought mom back some gummy bears (she swears that German gummy bears are MUCH better than what you can buy here, so he always brings her back some). I've been asking her ALL week if I could have some (she finally shared some with me tonight). Needless to say, mom didn't get as much done last week as she had hoped. But such is life.
Daddy took me to swim class on Saturday so mommy could get her "long run" in. It was pretty icy, so mom opted for the treadmill rather than the slippery sidewalks and cold wind. 9 miles on the treadmill is TOUGH, but she did it and felt pretty good. She was *almost* done by the time we got back from class. Daddy said I did a great job in class again and swam by myself with the floating barbell and even swam under the waterfall (which I had been afraid of before). I jumped in to daddy and chased after my fish (an orange swim ring). I'm definitely less timid in the water than I used to be!
Daddy went for his long run on Sunday and mom and I went to the grocery store. I love Whole Foods and mom and I had salads from there for dinner :) We also went shopping for new decorations for my bedroom - mom and I got new curtains last week, so we got a new quilt (flowers and butterflies!), sheets, and a lamp. No more plain white "big girl" room :) We're also going to hang the quilt that my great grandma made for me - I think I showed a picture of it, but it matches my new bedding quite well.
We had a good Monday and Tuesday this week as well. The federal government (and therefore my school and mommy's office) didn't open until 11 on Monday because of the ice, so we got to sleep in a little and I got to play at home for a while before we went to school yesterday. Today, mom had a meeting, so I also got to go to school a little later than normal. My schedule will be all thrown off tomorrow when we actually have to get up on time! But tomorrow is my music class, so if mom reminds me of that in the morning, I'll probably get up pretty easily.
Mom does have some more pictures to show, but hasn't taken them off the camera yet. Soon - I promise!
Hope everyone is well!

Happy New Year! (two weeks late...)
Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful finish to 2011 and a very happy start to 2012!
Cool fact for today: I am 3 years, 3 months, 3 weeks and 3 days old. Pretty crazy, huh?
We all had a fun time between Christmas and New Years. The day after Christmas, we all got up and had breakfast, then headed out around lunchtime to take Grammy and Grampy to meet Aunt Laurie, Uncle Dan, my cousins Courtney and Kaylee, and Aunt Terry! We met in Delaware - Terry flew in to Philly, so Laurie picked her up and we all met at a restaurant and celebrated our Christmas together. It was a short visit with everyone, but we had a lot of fun. I immediately attached myself to Courtney and Kaylee and sat at their end of the table the entire dinner! They read my new books to me and played with me the whole time. Mom cut up my food and let me eat dinner with them too.
Mom had to work part of the day on Tuesday, so I went to school for part of the day. At least we both got to "sleep in" (yes, mom calls 7 sleeping in, ha ha) and get ready leisurely rather than our normal hustle of a morning routine. Tuesday and Wednesday I also told mom I wanted to go to school for a little bit, so she took me for a few hours so I could play with my friends and she could get some runs / errands in. I was going a little stir crazy sitting at home over the holidays anyway (even with all of my new toys), so it was nice to see my teachers and friends, run around out on the playground and have a little break in the day. Friday I told mom I wanted to stay home, so I did.
Saturday was New Years Eve and mom and dad went to dinner with friends. I had a babysitter for dinner - we had pizza and got to do lots of fun crafts!!! We made a few ornaments to hang on the Christmas tree and mom and dad were so happy to see them when they got home. I was awake (again) when they got home, so mom took me back up to bed and cuddled with me until I fell asleep. When I woke up the next day, it was 2012! Mom and dad didn't have to work that Monday either, so we had another fun day at home together :)
Mom decided to do a photography project in 2011 and did a 365 project of photos of me!!! She took a picture (or many) of me every single day and didn't miss a day at all :) There was one day that she didn't see me because she had to travel for work, but daddy filled in on that day. It was a ton of work and she's still not done editing and uploading all of the December photos - it gets a little tedious after a while to edit and touch up the many pictures. But she'll get it done and will get the books for the grandparents and great-grandparents ordered. It's so fun to look at how I've changed over the course of a year. And it brings back so many fun memories!
It's been a fun few weeks back at school and I continue to learn a lot of new things. We've been dancing a lot lately and I'm learning a ton of new Spanish words - I now know my numbers from 1-10, most animals, most body parts and the colors. Mom signed me up for music again (she forgot in December and I reminded her every week that I wanted to go back...). She ended up not signing me up for part of December because of the holidays. But now that it's January, I'm doing that again. I'm also doing Power Tots at school - they bring in gymnastics mats and equipment and I get to tumble and get a lot of energy out. Most of my friends in my class also do these classes, so it's a really fun time.
I also started back at swimming last week. I did SO well last week and even better today!!! I've always been a little more timid in the water with mom than I have been with dad, so mom's been taking me to class. The class is in the "leisure" pool at the indoor pool where we go (we got a family membership so daddy can train for the triathlon and mom and I can go splash around). When it's just a recreational swim, they have fountains and slides and it gets pretty crowded. But for my class, the fountains are all turned off - it's about 6 kids and a parent with each kid. The water is anywhere from a few inches deep to probably 4 feet, so I feel pretty comfortable there. During our lessons, they have barbells that float and I put my armpits on the bar part and can kick around and scoop the water without mom's help! Mom got me a new pair of goggles (that fit better than my old ones) and I think those really helped today. Even without mom holding me, I "swam" with my face in the water and blew bubbles, scooped water and kicked my feet. I even got up enough courage to jump from the side in to mom! It was SO much fun! Mom says she's glad we have swim classes before Disney next month since the house has a pool.
Speaking of which, I can not WAIT for our Disney trip! We finally got our flights booked, dinner reservations made and park passes purchased, so all we need to do is get the rental car. We're having lunch in the castle with the princesses, so I've been absolutely obsessed with them lately. Mom and dad generally aren't huge fans of "character" stuff, but since we'll be there and it's such a wonderful place for kids, they're indulging my princess obsession. 7 more weeks to go! Mom's a little nervous about the race, but is determined to plow through the rest of the training.
Daddy had to leave today for Germany, so it's just mom and I for a few days. I waved to daddy's car as he left and looked at mom and said "It's just you and me, mommy." Broke mommy's heart, but we're going to make the best of our time together! Daddy even left some videos for me to watch, so when I miss him, I can just watch the videos :) The time difference makes it difficult to talk to each other when he's there, but videos are a great way for us to stay in touch. Mommy can take videos of me and send them to daddy too. I have a ton of fun with that. Mom and I read a few long books tonight and sang FOUR songs instead of our usual two at bedtime. Fingers crossed I sleep in a bit tomorrow. I slept until almost 8 this morning and mom said she felt like a million bucks sleeping that late!
Here are some pictures from January so far.
I set up my chair at my train table and grabbed my laptop so I could work. Must be something really important - look how serious I am!
Mom shared her chocolate covered raisins with me. They are mom's favorites and her Grandma and Grandpa (my Great-Grandma and Great-Grandpa) get her a box every year for Christmas (THANK YOU!!!)
Grandma and Grandpa gave me a princess castle for Christmas. Mom and dad put it in my room since my Dora tent is in the family room and my big cardboard house is now in the basement. I was having fun wearing my Snow White nightgown playing in my castle. Mom also likes to braid my hair after my bath so it doesn't get tangled in the morning. My hair is getting LONG!
These are mom's favorite PJ's of mine. And I showed her how big I was by buttoning them ALL BY MYSELF! See how proud I am of myself??? Mom was too :)
I really loved the Rose Parade this year - particularly the marching bands! This was me pretending to be in a marching band.
Grammy and Grampy got me a subscription to High Five magazine. My first magazine came the other day and I made daddy read it to me cover to cover. There are a few "projects" in the back that mom and I are going to do this week while daddy is in Germany.
Hope everyone is enjoying 2012 so far!

I will write more later as I realize I haven't updated in a while, but I wanted to take a minute to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! Santa and my family were all so great to me and I've been busy playing all day!
Merry Christmas to my Great Grandma and Great Grandpa!
And last but not least, here is my version of Jingle Bells. Enjoy!

I think the Elf told Santa I was good!
It's been a busy week! Here are all of the crazy places that I've found Clyde over the past week.
Day 7: I found Clyde in the bathroom! I had to be VERY careful when I washed and dried my hands that I didn't touch him - I didn't want his magic to disappear!

Day 8: Clyde decided to help and vacuum the dining room! Kind of ironic given that I told him I want Santa to bring me a vacuum cleaner...
Day 9: I found Clyde sitting on the mantle in the family room watching TV! He must have been channel surfing, because he borrowed the remote!

Day 10: I didn't even have to go downstairs to find Clyde! He was sitting in the window above the front door :) I saw him when I walked out of my room before I even went downstairs!
Day 11: I think Clyde must have been bad - I found him in the time out corner! He had to stay there ALL day - I'm glad I'm good and don't have to spend *that* much time in time out :)
Day 12: Clyde must have been thirsty, because he was hanging on to the bottle of Ginger Ale.

We've had a good week - dad had to travel the beginning part of the week and I was excellent and listened to mom very well. I had a few night terrors, but nothing too awful. Dinners were great all week and mornings weren't even a struggle. Well, except this morning. Mom laid my clothes out and I put them on. Only problem is that my jeans were backwards! Mom tried to convince me to turn them around, but I didn't want to. So I went to school with backwards jeans and apparently told EVERYONE today that my pants were on backwards. I bet people think mom is crazy ;)
This weekend, I think we'll finish getting ready for Christmas. Mom and I decorated the tree earlier this week - all of the unbreakable ornaments are about 2-3 feet from the ground, ha ha. Mom hung the breakable ones up a little higher so kitty (and I) can't get to them. I helped mom wrap a few presents and helped dad put a few under the tree. Daddy and I put the nativity and all of the silver bells out last night while mommy was running on the treadmill. I can't wait for Christmas and can hardly believe it's NEXT WEEK already! I hope Santa brings me my vacuum cleaner!!!

Frosty Morning!
I slept pretty well last night again (mom's knocking on wood as I say this) - had a rough time waking up, but once I remembered that I had a mission to find Clyde, it was much easier to get up! I looked all over my room, the bathroom, the guest room, daddy's office and mommy and daddy's room and he wasn't there! So we went downstairs to see where he was. Kitty was anxiously waiting for us on the other side of the gate at the top of the stairs as she does most mornings. Mom closes the gate so she doesn't run into my room when mom checks on me or in mom and dad's room when mom gets up in the morning. And she knows that when I wake up, she gets fed (that's my job!).
We went downstairs and I looked and looked and looked. He was hard to find this morning! But when I went to the kitchen to tell mom what I wanted for breakfast, I looked up and this is what I saw...he was pretending to cook with one of mom and dad's pans and one of my spoons! Mom said maybe he used my spoon because it was more his size than a regular spoon. Who knows, but I sure hope he leaves it when he goes to see Santa tonight!

It was frosty this morning when mom and I left for school - I don't remember ever seeing frost before and was curious about it. Mom let me touch the frost on the car and it felt like ice!!! Brrrrr...
We put our tree up tonight and I got to turn the lights on all by myself! I even got to hang the first two ornaments on it :) We'll hopefully finish decorating tomorrow night, but for now I'm going to try to get some sleep!

Great Day!
What a great day! I woke up well again and came down to find Clyde sitting on the rocking chair in the living room :)

I listened to mom really well this morning and got dressed without any prompting. Mom had my outfit laid out (usually she lets me pick my own clothes) because today was picture day. Unfortunately they won't be back before Christmas, but she didn't want to take a chance that I'd pick a pair of purple striped leggings with an orange flower top with a turquoise headband :) We settled on a pair of jeans and a nice white shirt with a heart on it that Danny, Wanda and Gabriel gave me for my birthday! Mom made me wear a sweatshirt to eat breakfast so I didn't get it dirty before pictures.
It was SUPER cold this morning, so mom was glad to have the remote starter in her car. She took our bags out, then came back and carried me out. She always says she feels like a bag lady - on any given day, she has her computer bag, either her purse or gym bag, a cup of coffee and my backpack and whatever other random stuff I decide to take to school. That's the one drawback to having me rearfacing still - if my shoes are wet, mom's car seats get gross and she has to climb in to get me buckled. So if it's raining or the ground is wet, mom carries me to the car if she can. Mom had me stand on the scale after dinner the other night and I was 31.7 lbs, so I still have 3.3 lbs to go before I have to be turned around (or get a new carseat) :)
Mom had to go to Baltimore today, so got to take the ICC for the first time - she ended up getting to downtown Baltimore in about 45 minutes, which is about HALF the time it's been taking her to get to DC by Metro. Ironic that she can drive 50 miles in half the time it takes to drive 5 miles and take a train for less than 20. It was nice for her to get a break from the terrible DC commute, but she said she still wouldn't want to do it every day anymore!
I listened really well when she picked me up and we came home and cleaned up a bit - mom did the dishes and cleaned out the can cupboard - crazy, but needed to be done! I did such a great job of listening and cleaning up my toys and art supplies - mom gave me tons of hugs and kept telling me how proud she was of me. We had grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner - yum! Mom cut my sandwich into sticks and I dipped it in the soup and ate it all. I had a quick bath, then mom let me watch one episode of Dora - a big treat for me! But it let me wind down and she got some laundry put away before bed - whatever you need to do, right? There's not much down time when daddy is traveling!
We read the Grinch and I went to bed reasonably well. It's a little chilly tonight, but I'm all bundled up with comfy blankies and a ton of stuffed animals.
Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday - it means that daddy comes home and that I get to spend two days at home afterwards! Hope you're all doing well and I can't wait to wake up and see where Clyde is in the morning! He definitely told Santa that I was nice today!

Meet my Elf, Clyde!
Guess who came to visit me the other night? An Elf sent by Santa! He sent a book with the Elf and mommy, daddy and I read it together before bed. I got to pick a name for the Elf and decided to call him Clyde. It was one of the suggested names in the book, but I had a hard time coming up with anything else. He apparently comes every day to watch me to see if I've been naughty or nice. At night after I go to bed, he leaves and goes to tell Santa how I was that day. He comes back the next morning and I have to try to find him. One rule - we're not allowed to touch him, otherwise his magic will go away! So we have to be careful just to look and not touch.
Day 1: On the Shelf in my room. I really didn't like him in my room and woke up MANY times and was pretty freaked out that he was in there. I was glad when I woke up at one point and mom was able to show me that he was gone. I didn't know where he was, but I didn't really care as long as he wasn't in my room!

Day 2: I woke up really easily when mom came in to wake me up (unusual for me). I was excited to go try to find Clyde. I got dressed and ran downstairs to see if I could find him. My eyes lit up when I walked around the corner and found Clyde hanging on my easel!

Day 3: I again woke up pretty easily and wanted to find Clyde. I found him when I sat at the table to eat breakfast - he was hanging from the light above the table!!! How funny is that??? Mom and I are on our own the rest of the week, so she and dad are hoping the Elf reminds me to keep my listening ears on - I haven't been listening to mom so well lately.

Day 4 was this morning. I woke up and found Clyde in my bathroom! He was sitting on top of the picture that my Great Grandma Coble made for me (ok, she really made it for mom, but mom thought I would enjoy it so hung it in my bathroom). I was happy to have found him, but had trouble going potty and brushing my teeth because I didn't like being so close to the Elf. Mom kept telling me it was ok and I finally got through it and got dressed and ready for the day.

Where do you think we'll find Clyde tomorrow???
