Daddy had to take a trip to Germany last week for work. He had to leave on Saturday night and didn't get back until Friday afternoon. Mom and I were looking forward to some mommy-daughter time during the week, but we had a little excitement on Sunday night that kind of changed our plans for the rest of the week! Mom and I were reading books in my room on Sunday night (last week) and we heard a loud noise. I asked mom what the noise was and she said she didn't know. I told her it sounded like a garbage truck or a recycling truck and she agreed. It was strange for almost 8pm on a Sunday, but neither of us thought much of it. We finished reading, mom tucked me in and said good night. She went downstairs and flipped the fireplace on (yay for a gas fireplace) and sat down to watch some TV. I was already asleep by the time she sat down (or at least I was quiet already). Then she heard another BANG and the glass break sensor for the living room sounded. Mom's heart was pounding and she grabbed her phone, turned the alarm on and ran upstairs. A few seconds later, she heard another BANG and the alarm went off. She called 911 and ran into my room (I was crying because the alarm scared me). At first, she thought that someone was just throwing rocks at the house or something, but when the alarm went off, she thought someone was trying to break in, so that's what she told the 911 operator. The 911 operator was fabulous and calmed us both down and the police came to check things out. They even sent a car that had dogs to sniff around. Thankfully they didn't find anything - they think it must have been a bunch of kids vandalizing and throwing things at houses. There's a tiny hole in the siding next to our front door, but that's about it.
Needless to say, mom was pretty scared and I was tired and shaken up (mom had to take me downstairs with her to talk to the police and it was far past my bedtime at that point). Mom called Ken and Marie to see if we could hang out there for the night and thankfully they had room for us. We owe them BIG TIME!!! I was thrilled to have a sleepover with Arabelle (even though she was already in bed by the time we got there). Belle was so nice and left some of her "buddies" (what I call my stuffed animals) in the guest bed for me to sleep with. I played for a little when we got there, had a cup of water, then told mom I wanted to go to bed. I fell right asleep, Marie gave mommy a glass of wine (thank you Marie!) and then mommy came to bed with me a while later. We both slept really, really well and got up and played with Belle and Cole for a little while on Monday before we came home. Mom looked around when we got home and everything was fine. She worked for a while and I played (my school was closed because it was MLK Day).
We met Ruthie for lunch on Monday - I was a little crabby at lunch, but I think it was just because my schedule was a little "off." We went back home and mom finished working. We had an early night (as we did the rest of the week) and we hung out in mom's room and watched movies - I think mom let me watch more movies last week than I have ever watched! We watched Curious George 2 and Tangled (thank you Netflix streaming) and even a few episodes of Dora. Mom even let me sleep in her bed - she said I could keep daddy's spot warm for him, so I grabbed my pillow and at least a dozen of my buddies and made myself at home. I slept well and mom got to sleep pretty early every night. Needless to say, mom was pretty glad to get back to work on Tuesday. She even got to go to the gym at lunchtime and really enjoyed her run!
Daddy got back on Friday - no problems with flights and we were SO glad to see him. He brought me the coolest puzzles from Germany - two wooden puzzles that can also stand up on display - a horse and an elephant. They're kind of hard for me to put together, but if mom and dad talk me through it, I can do it. We're going to put them up in my room :) He brought mom back some gummy bears (she swears that German gummy bears are MUCH better than what you can buy here, so he always brings her back some). I've been asking her ALL week if I could have some (she finally shared some with me tonight). Needless to say, mom didn't get as much done last week as she had hoped. But such is life.
Daddy took me to swim class on Saturday so mommy could get her "long run" in. It was pretty icy, so mom opted for the treadmill rather than the slippery sidewalks and cold wind. 9 miles on the treadmill is TOUGH, but she did it and felt pretty good. She was *almost* done by the time we got back from class. Daddy said I did a great job in class again and swam by myself with the floating barbell and even swam under the waterfall (which I had been afraid of before). I jumped in to daddy and chased after my fish (an orange swim ring). I'm definitely less timid in the water than I used to be!
Daddy went for his long run on Sunday and mom and I went to the grocery store. I love Whole Foods and mom and I had salads from there for dinner :) We also went shopping for new decorations for my bedroom - mom and I got new curtains last week, so we got a new quilt (flowers and butterflies!), sheets, and a lamp. No more plain white "big girl" room :) We're also going to hang the quilt that my great grandma made for me - I think I showed a picture of it, but it matches my new bedding quite well.
We had a good Monday and Tuesday this week as well. The federal government (and therefore my school and mommy's office) didn't open until 11 on Monday because of the ice, so we got to sleep in a little and I got to play at home for a while before we went to school yesterday. Today, mom had a meeting, so I also got to go to school a little later than normal. My schedule will be all thrown off tomorrow when we actually have to get up on time! But tomorrow is my music class, so if mom reminds me of that in the morning, I'll probably get up pretty easily.
Mom does have some more pictures to show, but hasn't taken them off the camera yet. Soon - I promise!
Hope everyone is well!
